Fast Fashion for the Table

At Homefest, we’re often asked about the latest trends in dinnerware and entertaining. Over the years, we’ve seen a departure from our mothers’ china cabinet with full service for 12 in favor of a bit more personality, durability, and function. Nowadays we want our dinnerware to reflect our personal aesthetic, fit with our busy lifestyle, and we want to know where our products are sourced and about the talented artisans who create them. We are yearning for handcrafted dinnerware that celebrates the authentic and imperfect charm of each unique piece. We want dishes that look great on a formal holiday table yet are equally accessible for a take-out dinner around the kitchen island. With this in mind, we’ve taken a diversified buying approach.

Fast Fashion for the Table

We’ve seen a huge growth in ‘trend dinnerware:’ appetizer plates, dinnerware, decorative bowls, and mugs in fun colors, textures, and patterns. These stylish and affordable pieces are an easy buy for a festive cocktail party or to add a little interest when mixed with your current tabletop collection.

We so often find ourselves hosting parties standing around the kitchen island or a buffet where guests end up gathered around the living room or on the patio. So we set out on the hunt to find dishes that embraced that casual entertaining vibe. Our latest selections include bold, graphic prints, earthy, organic pottery, and light, airy colors. They won’t break the bank and are a great way to bring a little fun to the table.

Designer Favorites

Our favorite talents in designer dinnerware are also bringing more personality to the table. The timeless classics like Juliska’s Berry & Thread and Vietri’s Lastra will always be mainstays but we’re also seeing fresh introductions in bold blues, a sorbet rainbow of colors, and unconventionally shaped dishes that are durable enough for daily use but chic enough for an elevated presentation.

If that rustic, authentic, one-of-a-kind vibe gives you all the feels, Terrafirma artisan Ellen Evans paints her collection through patterned textiles laid over each hand-thrown piece. The result is a textured, bold, and arresting on your table. On the other end of the handcrafted spectrum, Match Italian pewter exudes elegance and old world charm with rich traditional designs that will be cherished for generations.

Whether you’re purchasing dinnerware for your first home, a fantastic kitchen renovation, or this weekends’ party our tables are topped and the options are endless.  Come into Homefest or shop us online and let us help you curate a tableware collection that aligns with your lifestyle.

How to Set a Festive Thanksgiving Table

It’s hard to believe we’re halfway through fall and Thanksgiving is less than a month away. I’ve received my coveted Thanksgiving issue of Bon Appetit and that means it’s officially time to start thinking about my Thanksgiving menu and table. While I’ll leave the menu planning to the experts, our Homefest design-team does have quite a few ideas for setting a festive Thanksgiving table.

Go Al Fresco!

There’s something special about summer, perhaps due to its fleeting nature and we like to make the most of the season.  The weather is warm, the days are long and spontaneous get-togethers abound.  There’s no better way to celebrate the season than dining al fresco. Whether it’s a stylish brunch, an afternoon barbecue or an evening gathering, outdoor entertaining is all about keeping it easy.

Say Cheese!

No matter the season, it seems we’re always entertaining. I am a busy working mom and my husband, who is in the hospitality business, seems to always be “surprising” me with winery and restaurant-types at the last minute. That said, I am always looking for an effortless yet elegant way to feed a crowd.
Let me set the scene for you…your toddler is coloring on the walls and you’re counting down to bedtime so you can throw on your yoga pants and binge watch The Crown. Then you get a text from your husband saying, “hey, do you mind if so-and-so pops by for some wine?” A momentary panic rushes over you (and probably a little bit of that “I want to kill my husband” vibe) but you want to maintain your effortlessly cool, collected, Domestic Goddess status. So what can you pull together at the last minute that looks totally gourmet but won’t leave you looking like Melanie Griffith in the dumpling cart scene in Working Girl? An effortless spread of bountiful cheese boards is a fast and impressive way to feed a crowd.
