How to Set a Festive Thanksgiving Table

It’s hard to believe we’re halfway through fall and Thanksgiving is less than a month away. I’ve received my coveted Thanksgiving issue of Bon Appetit and that means it’s officially time to start thinking about my Thanksgiving menu and table. While I’ll leave the menu planning to the experts, our Homefest design-team does have quite a few ideas for setting a festive Thanksgiving table.

Layer Your Dinnerware

We love a little artful layering. Gone are the days of setting the table all in one pattern. Layering dinnerware in different finishes, colors, and textures creates a bountiful look and a great holiday vibe. It’s also a great way to utilize your existing dinnerware while adding a little seasonal interest. A few of our fall favorites to layer include:

* Juliska’s Forest Walk captures the sentiment of the season and mixes beautifully with your solid dinnerware.

* Terrafirma’s graphic patterns come in an array of bold colors that add great texture to your table.

* For a more sophisticated fall feeling, Juliska’s Pewter dinnerware mixes well with white-ware as well as other metallics.

* Juliska’s Country Estate in flint gives great pattern and traditional vibes but can also throw in an unexpected twist when layered with more contemporary metallics.

Get creative, pull complimentary colors and textures together and mix in a little coordinating pattern for a table-scape that will wow.

Set a Seasonal Base with Linens

When we think of fall, we think of woodland walks, falling leaves, and rustic textures. A great way to bring the season indoors is to think of your table setting as an extension of the colors and textures you find outdoors. Right now, we love the way our rustic rope, wrapped palm and straw loop placemats recall bare trees, dry leaves and the change of seasons. Compliment those rustic, outdoor textures with napkins that feel handspun and woven of hearty, natural fibers. Chunky laundered linen and coarse cottons in natural neutrals are the perfect compliment to our woodland placemat collection.

Create a Gather-Worthy Centerpiece

Create a centerpiece that people will want to gather ‘round. Give a nod to fall’s bounty with a collection of seasonal pumpkins, gourds, and wheat bunches accented with glowing taper candles. For a softer pallet, drape fall greenery like eucalyptus or magnolia branches down the center of your table with pillar candles in varying heights. Or create a sophisticated glow with a grouping of colored glass votives. Shop our centerpiece collection for functional centerpiece trays, candles, and several more seasonal entertaining ideas.

Serve it with Style

Everything looks more appealing when dished up in a beautiful serving piece. Whether you’re going for formal or casual, serving a crowd or a few close friends, you’ll want to make sure you have a good selection of serveware to present your meal at the table. Think charcuterie boards and canapé knives for starters, carafes and decanters for water and wine, oven-to-table bowls and platters, gravy boats, serving utensils, and dessert plates to end the meal. It’s one of the biggest holiday meals of the year but it’s easy to master when you have the right serving pieces to showcase your culinary efforts.
